Seagreen Wind Energy Ltd (SWEL) has submitted a formal EIA screening request to Marine Scotland in support of a potential application to vary the existing Seagreen consents under Section 36C of the Electricity Act 1989. SWEL is proposing to increase the height of the remaining consented, but not constructed, 36 turbines.
Seagreen, which will become Scotland’s largest offshore wind farm and one of the largest private investments in Scottish infrastructure, is being developed by joint partners SSE Renewables and TotalEnergies.
114 of the originally consented 150 turbines are currently being installed at the Seagreen Offshore Wind Farm off the coast of Angus, Scotland.
These turbines will connect to a new substation at Tealing, near Dundee, while the remaining 36 turbines will connect into a new substation at Cockenzie, East Lothian.
This approach provides the Seagreen project with the opportunity to consider the significant advances made in turbine technology to increase and maximise the capacity of the consented turbines.
